A 1985 master's graduate of the Interdisciplinary Telecom Program, Amy Barnes Frey was president and CEO of Video Accessory Corporation, a manufacturing firm in Boulder specializing in audio/video distribution and signal correction devices. Although founded with an emphasis on the broadcast industry, the company's focus widened into security applications; as a result, Frey trained as a certified master anti-terrorism specialist and taught more than 40 different classes on terrorism-related topics to government agencies, private industry, and law enforcement worldwide.
Amy's father, Frank Barnes, is a distinguished professor in the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Energy Engineering at CU-Boulder. He co-founded the Interdisciplinary Telecom Program with CU political science professor George Codding, Jr. in 1971.
"We deeply appreciate all that the Barnes family has done for the ITP, from Frank's leadership in establishing the program to their continuing wish to support students in getting their education," said Faculty Director Tim Brown. "We are thus establishing this fellowship in honor of both our founder and his daughter, a successful ITP graduate who went on to start her own company and positively impact the world."
